Why Scotchfairy?
The Scotchfairies were a side effect of a science fiction convention. A group of us were wandering the party floor of the hotel with a sack full of single malt scotches and a bunch of shot glasses, giving impromptu scotch tastings at each party we stopped in on. Someone shouted to us as we slipped away from one party, "Hey, who are you guys?" and my husband replied, "We're the Scotch Fairies!"
As we trundled down the corridors, we decided that there also must be Beer Brownies, Rum Demons, Vodka Domevoi, Gin Genies, Whiskey Witches, and Pot Pixies, as well as the the ever-present dangers of the Hangover Fairy and Pink Elephants. So Scotch Fairies made perfect sense.

By the end of the night, we'd stumbled back to our hotel room and started joking that we needed to register the domain name. Silly us. The room had a live net connection. So of course we had to register www.scotchfairy.org right then and there. Over the rest of the convention George started writing The Rules. By the time we got home, I had a viable piece of artwork (you can see the older versions on the scotchfairy webpage). And so yet another useless website was born. However, we had t-shirts made, which we have actually worn to other conventions since, so it hasn't been an entire waste. And it means that when I try and register a username somewhere, I have something I can try that usually isn't already taken.
The Scotch Fairy to the rescue!
