How to use commercial teddy bear joints instead of ball buttons.
The Pieces
This is a photo of a disassembled teddybear joint and the tool used to tighten them in place. As you can see, they're quite simple. You could make them yourself, if you could find a source for cotter's pins.
The rest of this explanation is going to assume that you've read the basic assembly instructions for a jointed doll here.
Assume that we've gotten to the point where we need to join a limb (like a leg) to the body of a doll, like this:
